Former Rangers centre-back Clint Hill has claimed thai sbo that Graeme Murty will definitely be considered when the club appoint a new permanent manager in the summer.
Murty was handed the manager’s job until the end of the season in December after a botched attempt to find Pedro Caixinha’s successor saw Derek McInnes snub a switch to Ibrox after several weeks of searching.
The former Rangers Under-20s boss has done wonders though, especially after the winter break when he has been able to blood new signings made by him and Mark Allen during the January transfer window.
Now, Carlisle star Hill believes that Murty has done enough to potentially be offered the job on a long-term deal in the summer.
“They know that they’ve got a great man in charge now who’s found that stability, who has progressed the team to another level from last season,” said Hill to BBC Scotland, as quoted by the BBC Sport website.
“There’s a lot of positives for him to take and I’m sure the club will be looking at it as well. They wouldn’t have given the job to him if they didn’t think he could do it.
“I’m pretty sure if he does well, challenges and gets into thai sbo the [Scottish Cup] final then I’m sure he’s got a great shout of getting the job.
“To judge success you need to win trophies and hopefully that’s the next step for Graeme and the club.”
It’s hard to remember that Rangers’ managerial situation is not cleared up yet and there’s no doubt that Dave King is working alongside the board to consider who they will hire in the summer. Murty is definitely a frontrunner though with the way he has stabilised the Gers and get them within six points at Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table. Results were a bit mixed to start with having overseen a couple of humiliating results before Christmas, but after welcoming the likes of Sean Goss, Greg Docherty and Jamie Murphy in January, the Light Blues are in sensational form. Hill’s shout for Murty to be named manager permanently looks likely to happen as long as thai sbo they do not drop off severely in the coming weeks.
