Left-back has enjoyed excellent 188bet season on loan at Wigan

Leicester City left-back Callum Elder admits his future is up in the air as he concludes his loan spell at Wigan.

The Australian is coming to the end of a memorable stint with the Latics in which he’s helped the club to promotion back to the Championship and to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, a run that included victories over three Premier League sides.

Elder has one year left on his City contract, but with Ben Chilwell and Christian Fuchs fighting for the left-back spot at the King Power, the 23-year-old’s future at the club is in doubt.

"It’s hard to say where I’ll be next season,” Elder told Wigan Today .

"I’ve obviously got one more year on my deal at Leicester, and we’ll see what happens there.

"All I can say is I’ve enjoyed my time here so much, it’s been an amazing 12 months and I’ll never forget it."

Elder seems open to a return to Wigan after a season which he says could not have gone better.

Battling with Matty James’ brother Reece for the first-choice left-back spot at the DW Stadium, Elder has made 32 appearances in all competitions for the Latics, and will hope to make one more as they head to Doncaster this weekend needing a draw to seal the League One title.

While promotion is hard to match, Elder’s FA Cup experience will be a highlight, the Aussie scoring once and assisting twice as Wigan knocked out Bournemouth, West Ham and Premier League champions Manchester City.

"My year here could not have gone any better,” Elder said.

"To get promoted to the Championship, and get through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup – at the age of 23 – has been amazing.

"I can’t thank the club 188bet enough for taking me on board, and for the fans for taking me in as well.

“And I’d like to think my performances have helped to repay the faith shown in my by the management.

"To join a dressing room full of such quality – it’s a Championship squad in there if you look at it – has been great for me.

"The management staff have built a real foundation for the future, and I’m sure the club will go far in the years to come." 188bet
